Craving to create? Want to share special experiences with other young people?
We are currently recruiting for the new year of the Frân Wen Young Company (CIFW)!
This is a company of young people who meet weekly in Nyth, Bangor in order to:
Develop all kinds of theatre skills with other people
Building confidence in an environment that encourages experimentation
Empowering a young artistic community to realise potential
It is an opportunity for young artists to embrace their creativity while practising performance techniques, developing inventive skills and co-creating theatrical projects with professional artists and theatre makers.
Is CIFW for me?
It's is a theatre company driven by young people in North West Wales. This year we are looking for three companies, with spaces for 20 in each company.
CIFW 1 (yr6 - yr7) - an introduction to various theatre skills, with an informal sharing at the end of term.
CIFW 2 (yr8 - yr10) - developing new work, leading to sharing a piece-in-development at our Sgratsh event.
CIFW 3 (yr11 - yr13 / aged 16-18) - co-create a theatre production with professional artists.
Most sessions focus on working as a group rather than on individual work. This means they can be noisy and busy and include games, group exercises and co-creation practice.
One of the aims of CIFW is to encompass a range of experiences and perspectives. It's open to everyone, however, it may not be suitable for all therefore we have this criteria that could help you decide if Frân Wen Young Company is for you.
A Young Company member should…
Be able to regularly contribute to sessions that lasts:
An hour and a half (CIFW 1)
Two hours (CIFW 2 and 3)
Able to work comfortably in a group - and if not, able to communicate with session leaders about this.
Being able to work comfortably in an environment that is sometimes noisy and busy.
Ability to work with text (i.e. scripts). We will adapt any text according to an individual's needs e.g. larger size text, text on coloured paper.
Be prepared to work on various theatre techniques in a collaborative manner, with the focus on collaboration with other people rather than individual work.
Ability to work in a Welsh-language environment - we welcome Welsh speakers, new speakers and learners.
Be prepared to work with respect and sensitivity towards the needs of other individuals.
To have fire and passion, and ready to contribute and collaborate in a daring, kind and open manner.
When does CIFW meet?
They meet weekly during the school term. If you are working on specific project or production, there will be additional dates for these sessions.
Here's a link to the timetable for all three young companies for 2024/25.
Do you have to pay to take part?
We ask for a contribution of £30 each term.
Thos who receive a free school lunch qualify for our Young Company bursary - contact us through cifw@franwen.com for more info.
