Lead cast for Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd announced

Garmon Rhys and Lois Elenid to head up the cast

Frân Wen is proud to announce the first cast members for a new stage adaptation of Islwyn Ffowc Elis’ Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd (A Week in Future Wales), which will tour theatres this autumn.

Leading the production are Garmon Rhys and Lois Elenid, who will bring this story of identity, belonging and the future of Wales to life on Welsh stages.

Garmon is known for his performances in television programmes including Gangs of London (Sky Atlantic/HBO) and Craith / Hidden (S4C), as well as theatre productions such as Doctor Faustus (Duke of York's Theatre, West End), Tina: The Tina Turner Musical (Aldwych Theatre, West End) and Sunny Afternoon (Sonia Friedman Productions / UK Tour).

This is the first production for Lois since graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama last year. Her theatre work includes Ble Mae Fy Nghartref? (Volcano Theatre), Mae Pawb Isio Byw (Cwmni Tebot) and Rhyngom (Theatr Cymru). Her screen work includes Y Gens (S4C) and Craith (S4C/BBC).

Written by Mared Llywelyn Williams and directed by Gethin Evans, Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd is a reimagining of one of Wales's most significant literary works. First published in 1957, the novel is recognised as the first adult science-fiction book in the Welsh language.

The production follows the journey of Ifan, who is thrown forward decades in time - twice. One future reveals a free Wales filled with love and hope; the other is a bleak world stripped of language, borders, and community. Mair is present in both worlds.

As he navigates these two unfamiliar worlds, Ifan is forced to confront questions that are just as urgent today as they were when the novel was first published: What kind of Wales do we want to create?
