A new bilingual musical in development by Mared Williams
Inspired by the closure of Mared’s own Welsh primary school, Ysgol Llannefydd, Y Pentref follows Beca, a young woman returning home to a village on the brink. The school is closing, her brother’s lost, and the community is fracturing.
Fuelled by a folk-pop score and bursting with humour, heart, and rebellious spirit, Y Pentref asks: what happens when the heartbeat of a village fades - and can a community rebuild without clinging to the past?
Think Schitt’s Creek in North Wales, with chaotic committee members, unlikely love stories, and a battle to save more than just bricks and mortar. This isn’t just a local story, it’s a timely reminder of what’s worth holding on to, and when it’s time to let go.
