Eisteddfod ready for Corn Gwlad?
Zip up your boots, don your most fabulous gown and prepare for Corn Gwlad, Seiriol Davies’ latest musical, is coming to Rhondda Cynon Taf this August.
The show shines a light on the controversial winner of the 1924 National Eisteddfod in this sparkling, all-singing, some-dancing exploration of Welshness, queerness and… ferrets.
Co-produced by Frân Wen and Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru, the show re-enacts the crowning of poet Prosser Rhys, who was mocked by the Archdruid of the Orsedd for mentioning his relationship with a man in his winning poem ‘Atgof’ (Memory).
Said writer and composer Seiriol Davies: "Audiences can expect a wild hour full of hilarity, jokes about ferrets, extraordinary costumes and bangers from some of Wales' greatest musical talents (and me!).
The story prods the integral sense of who we are. What happens if we discover that the history we’ve all been taught is... wrong?”
No offense to the little white booties the orsedd members wear but I'm quite confident in saying... never will the Gorsedd look so fabulous!Seiriol Davies
The cast includes Archie, the Archdruid, (Lisa Angharad) who struggles to deal with the challenge to tradition that Prosser (Meilir Rhys Williams) poses. Will the Orsedd (Nia Gandhi, Carys Eleri) find solace and guidance in founding member Iolo Morganwg (Seiriol Davies)? Or will the whole thing go to pot?
The show runs from 6-9 August at 7.30pm in Y Babell Lên at the National Eisteddfod in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Entry is free to those with Eisteddfod tickets.
