Elgan Rhys joins as Head of Engagement

Ready to fuel the next generation

Elgan Rhys Head of Engagement

We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of Elgan Rhys as our Head of Engagement.

After more than a decade of living in Cardiff, the Pwllheli-born director, practitioner, and playwright is returning home to North Wales

He directed our acclaimed adaptation of Llyfr Glas Nebo (2020), co-wrote our smash-hit musical Branwen:Dadeni and was our associate artist between 2017-2019. He’s also the creative editor behind the innovative book series Y Pump and was co-founding Artistic Director of Cwmni Pluen Company (2014-21).

"We’re extremely excited that Elgan's joining our team permanently," said Gethin Evans, Frân Wen Artistic Director.

“His passion, energy and ambition will be an asset to the company as we continue to challenge the way theatre is made, ensuring community is at the heart of everything we do and that Nyth is buzzing with creativity and its doors are always open to the communities of North West Wales.”

With a special interest in empowering the voices of our communities, Elgan will oversee and develop our engagement programme of inspiring creative work with our communities and the arts sector.

Speaking about his appointment, Elgan said: "I’m proud to join Frân Wen, a company that has inspired and empowered throughout my career. I’m ready to celebrate, empower and collaborate with young people and communities in North West Wales, and share our stories with the world.

"In a time when there is so much fragility, I’m determined to play a part in realising Frân Wen's vision of fuelling the next generation of artists - with Nyth, the company's new home, as a community hub."

I’m extremely proud to be returning home to North Wales - and to play my part in ensuring a range of creative opportunities for the area.
